The URL and title of this website came about because the URL “dataisbeautiful.com” was taken, and, in fact, redirects to the subreddit r/dataisbeautiful.
But then an epiphany struck – as epiphanies are wont to do – and it became blindingly obvious that the URL should be “dataarebeautiful.com” because “data” is plural (well, maybe: see here for a debate).
We wouldn’t have a URL “cowsisbeautiful” would we?
So here we are, with the odd-sounding, but apparently grammatically correct URL “dataarebeautiful.com”
The singular “datumisbeautiful.com” was available, and still is as far as we know, but who wants a website discussing a single datum? In an era of Big Data we can’t really discuss a Big Datum, can we?
Afterthoughts:
At the time of writing (June, 2018) the URLs “dataisplural.com” and “datumissingular.com” are available – maybe you should snap them up?
Of course, to show you’re on trend, you could snap up the still available “dataisingular.com” or the more informative “dataissingulartoo.com”
